Garden with Insight v1.0 Help: Soil daily state group
Number of soil layers: The number of soil layers in the
simulated soil patch. This number is always set at ten layers in the current version of the simulation.
Depth by layer: Soil depth at the bottom of each soil layer. The thickness of each layer can be
determined by subtracting the depth of the layer above it. The first soil layer is always 10 mm deep; the
depth of other layers can change through erosion and amendments.
Weight by layer: The dry weight of each soil layer. Closely related to bulk density (the weight of soil solids per
unit soil volume). Decreased by erosion; increased by soil amendments.
Soil profile depth: Either 2.0 meters or the depth at the bottom of the lowest soil layer,
whichever is smallest. Used in many soil calculations.
Plow depth: A constant depth of 0.2 meters (about 8
inches), which is about how deep the soil is usually plowed. The top 0.2 m of soil is sometimes called the
'plow layer'. The plow depth is used for various processes dealing with the upper layers of the soil.
Days since auto fertilization was applied: The number of days
since this soil patch was automatically fertilized. Auto fertilization is limited by a parameter that determines how many days must pass between fertilizations.
Days since auto irrigation was applied: The number of days since this soil patch was
automatically irrigated. Auto irrigation is limited by a parameter that determines how many days must
pass between irrigations.
