Garden with Insight v1.0 Help: Time line window

The time line window is a simple calendar for planning planting and harvest dates. For the currently selected climate, frost dates are shown (the last spring frost and the first fall frost). For each cultivar available for planting, the best planting and harvest dates for that cultivar are shown in relation to the climate's frost dates. (If the climate has no frost, today's date is used as a planting date for each cultivar.)

You can use this window in this way: say you want to plant corn, and you're not sure when to plant it in this climate. Open the time line window (choose Time line from the Windows menu on the garden window) and click on Corn in the list of cultivars. The date labeled with a "p" is the best corn planting date in this climate. The date labeled with a "g" is the probable date of corn germination (based on temperature only; the soil must be wet enough). The date labeled with an "h" is the best corn harvest date in this climate. These dates are all determined by cultivar parameters that describe when the plant is best grown. Of course, all these dates are approximate.

If there is an "o" label on the time line, it means this cultivar has the "days from planting to grow optimally" parameter set greater than zero, which means the plant will instantly grow to that point when you plant it. If there is an "o" on the time line, you should plant then. See How to make a seedling cultivar for more information about this head-start option.
