Garden with Insight v1.0 Help: buffering

Buffering means reducing fluctuations in some property. Soil temperature is buffered by vegetation on the surface of the soil because the vegetation insulates the soil from the extreme weather in the air above. Soil pH is buffered by some soil minerals because the oxygen or hydrogen in the mineral molecules combines with H+ ions (if the soil is too acidic) or OH- ions (if the soil is too alkaline) to form water and carbon dioxide, keeping the pH close to neutrality.

How it works:
auto pH control
increase in acidity due to fertilizer
