Garden with Insight v1.0 Help: Soil daily surface group
Furrow dike height today: The height of the dikes that hold
water in the soil furrows (ditches between rows). Dike height declines with rainfall, and dikes are rebuilt
if the dike height falls to 70% of the original dike height if the 'auto maintain furrow dikes' option is on.
Furrow dike height when created: The height furrow dikes will be rebuilt at when they are
washed out by rain. If the 'auto maintain furrow dikes' option is not on, no rebuilding will occur. Ranges
from 0 to 300 millimeters.
Furrow dike interval: The distance along the soil furrows (ditches between rows) at which
furrow dikes are placed to hold water after rainfall. Ranges from 1 to 3 meters. Affects the amount of
water the dikes can hold.
Surface random roughness: The height of the smallest (random) lumps and bumps in the soil
surface. Changed by some tool actions (mixing, aerating, applying amendments). Affects wind erosion --
the rougher the surface, the less wind erosion.
Surface ridge height: The height of soil ridges (rows) between troughs (ditches). Changed by
tool actions that mix soil. Affects wind erosion (the higher the ridges, the less wind erosion) and water runoff (the higher the ridges, the more water the troughs can hold).
Surface ridge interval: How far apart are the soil ridges (rows) between troughs (ditches).
Changed by tool actions that mix soil. Affects wind erosion and water runoff together with ridge height.
Furrow dike volume: The amount of water held (which didn't run off) between the furrow dikes
on this soil patch. Depends on dike height and interval, soil slope, and
a parameter for how much of the dike volume can hold water.
Furrow dikes need to be rebuilt: If 'yes', today's rainfall, snowmelt and/or irrigation has washed
out the furrow dikes, and they will be rebuilt tomorrow.
Maximum mixing depth so far: The deepest depth to which the soil in this soil patch has been
mixed since it was created. Affects soil settling from rain (tilled soil settles more).
